LOL! So that guy I was talking about last time, the one who I bluffed off that flush? Well, he got me back by knocking me out of the tournament this week (I guess the cat's out of the bag, the guy was JD). I made a seriously stupid move and ended up giving him all my chips. I must've had a meltdown or something.

I brought my wife in to try the tournament for the first time. She decided to play in the World Series with me, so needs to get comfortable in a live environment. The blind structure at San Pablo is the same they're using in the event we're doing (except that the blinds go up twice as fast at San Pablo), so it's good practice.

$3/$6 went pretty good. She just broke even, maybe down a couple of dollars. But I got pretty lucky. I only had a handful of strong hands, but they all stood up and I won nice sized pots. I quit the cash game $160 ahead, so was freerolling + $100 for the tournament.

It was only the second round in the tourney when I found myself heads up in a pot with JD. Right as the hand was being played, my wife came up and told me she was out. She had pocket kings and her opponent had pocket aces. The exact same thing happened to her the last time she tried a live tournament, so she was a little irked.

At that point, I figured the tournament was a freeroll and that, since she was out, getting knocked out myself wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Now, that's just what was going through my head before I looked at my cards. It in no way excuses the horrible mistakes I made.

I had pocket queens, made a raise, and only JD saw the flop with me. An Ace came up. I wasn't sure where I was in the hand, but it was conceivable that JD could have an Ace since he did call a raise. So I made a decent sized bet to find out, and JD answered with a large raise. Right then is when I made my first mistake. It was a large raise, and from what I knew of JD he would only be doing this with an Ace and a decent kicker. That's when I had my little meltdown. There were two clubs and one of my queens was a club. I was thinking that I could get a queen or runner-runner clubs to win the hand... or go out and leave early with my wife. So I made the call.

It was a stupid move. Really dumb. The turn came up a blank (i.e. no club). I checked and JD pushed all-in. I then followed up my first stupid move with an even worse one... I called. At that point, I knew I only had two outs left to win. There was no way JD was really bluffing with all his chips, not this early in the game. I guess I was thinking a.) If I fold now, I'll be crippled since I don't have many chips left. b.) If I go out now, I can leave with my wife and she won't have to sit around the casino all unhappy.

JD turned over AK (for a moment he thought we had the same hand, since I called). I didn't get one of my two outs on the river, and that was that. I can't get over how stupid I played, especially after such success at the cash games that morning. I made money for the day, but still... that was just so embarrassing.
