w00t! I made it to the final table at the Casino San Pablo tournament on Saturday (in person, not online). They start paying out prizes at 10th place and I went out in 7th. Not too shabby. A combination of short stacks at the table, and me getting trash hands, had me just waiting for the short stacks to go out. Every player that busted meant more prize money for me. It worked ok at first, as three of the short stacks eventually went out before me. But the binds & antes were so huge, I eventually had to go all-in with AJ. I lost to Q6, when my opponent caught a 6.

I also made $75 at the $3/$6 table while waiting for the tournament to start. That covered the $55 tournament buy-in, where I won $150. I gave a $15 tip after I got 7th, so ended up making $155 total for the day. My bankroll is now large enough that I can play $3/$6 online, so I'm now Level 6 (according to that chart from my first post). I've officially graduated from micro-stakes to small-stakes I'm right at the cusp though, so unless I make money at my next session, I'll have to drop back down to $2/$4.

It's been a pretty good week, I'm really liking my tournament play. I made sure to stay away from any hand where I wasn't the aggressor. I rarely called any raises, I was either folding or re-raising. I managed to lay down some pretty good hands when I wasn't sure if I was ahead or behind. But I also made up for those hands by bluffing when I sensed my opponent would lay it down. I wasn't really as aggressive as I would have liked, but I'm improving.

Heh, at one point I was all-in with AJ. My opponent had 99. I had him covered, but losing the hand would still cripple me. If you read my results from the last time I did this tournament, you'd know I got knocked out holding 99 against AJ. I was so afraid I was going to be crippled playing this hand from the other side. But I did catch a J, busted the 99, and was still in the running.

I hope this weekend wasn't a fluke. I'm going to keep doing this tournament and hopefully my play will greatly improve before the WSOP events this summer.
