Well, the buzz from my WSOP adventures is starting to wear off. Work can do that. I played some cash games for the rest of my stay, winning a decent amount in each game. Man, Vegas is great for low-stakes poker. Sooo many tourists sitting down to try the game out. My wife got pretty sick for the last half of the week, so we didn't do much besides hang out in the time share. She had to be hospitalized the day before we left, and then again when we got here. But she's all better now and the ...

Wow, what a roller coaster yesterday. The WSOP was pretty amazing, the Rio was packed with people. Pros were everywhere, I saw a different big name every few feet. Chris Moneymaker was outside having a smoke, Freddy Deeb was standing around with some friends, Amir Vahedi was sitting on the floor smoking a cigar, Phil Gordon was standing for pictures, etc. I was loving it. Dutch was with me, getting me psyched and prepped. I also ran into Tim from San Pablo, who's at the event for Card Play...

Well, not really. I've been doing pretty well the last few weeks, so I've pretty much got the buy-in covered with just cash on hand. I'm doing event #2, the first $1,500 no-limit hold'em tournament. There are a few of us from San Pablo doing events, Dutch & Chris are doing event #4 (limit hold'em) and JD is doing event #6 (no-limit hold'em). Tim, another guy I play with, will be covering the event for a publication Card Player magazine is doing. Hopefully, he'll get to play in one of the pres...

It's been a good week so far, these SNG's have been treating me pretty well. I haven't really had enough time to play $3/$6 lately, so I've just been playing a single $50 SNG before bed. It's about the same risk/reward ratio that I'm used to. I either lose $54, or I win $196, $96, or $46 depending on if I get 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. I've gotten 2nd place two nights in a row, then got 1st last night. Nearly $400 for the week feels pretty good. The $50 SNG's are a bit different than the $20 SNG's ...

I had to setup a booth for my company at a conference last week, so haven't had much chance to play or blog about poker lately. I've been jonesing for it. I managed to play online a bit, but I haven't been doing too well. Feels like I lost my mojo. It's easier to blame the cards than myself, but I have felt pretty damn unlucky lately. Feels like I can't hit any cards and no one believes my bluffs. I think I'll stick to sit & goes for a while, I've just been taking a beating at $3/$6. I did ma...

Man, losing that tournament sucked. I wasn't expecting to go out that quickly there at the end. Over five hours as one of the chip leaders, but not good enough to make it into the money. But I do want to thank JamesACG for looking over my shoulder. I think I played better than normal knowing that someone was watching. And at least I had a witness for my crippling bad beat The advice definitely helped, too. I think I had my speed tuned pretty well for that game. I noticed a lot of the ...

I made over $100 last night, so I can easily lose this tournament and still be comfortable at $3/$6. It's about to start and there are nearly 700 people signed up already. It's going to be really tough, but I won't be too hard on myself if I don't make it. I just have to take my shot. Wish me luck!

More progress. I made $100 last night, brining me even closer to my goal. I don't think earning the entire $1,000 is going to be likely. But getting at least $500 for the week should definitely be possible. I already went ahead and transferred my online cash around, putting $1k in Full Contact Poker. Then I officially signed up for the tournament. There were already over 200 people signed up. I'm hoping that they're mostly people who came in via qualifiers. Since the qualifiers were mostly...

Well, Tuesday night didn't really go as planned. I started off winning $120 in about 15 minutes, which was awesome. I figured I'd reach my goal in no time. It was less awesome when I gave all of that back over the next hour. It was totally devoid of awesomeness when I ended up $100 behind by the hour after that. I fought my way back up to even before I went to bed, but it was still pretty disappointing to spend all that time with nothing to show for it. My goal was still a long way off. La...

I made it to 18th place at the San Pablo tournament last weekend, but not far enough to get into the money. I ended up calling a guy's all-in with AQs. I was short stacked and felt I had a good read that he didn't have much. Sure enough, he only had T8. But he got a strait and bounced me out. This week, I've been pounding away at a qualifier for a big online tournament going on this weekend at Full Contact Poker. The tournament looks pretty sweet. You start out with a ton of chips, the bli...

LOL! So that guy I was talking about last time, the one who I bluffed off that flush? Well, he got me back by knocking me out of the tournament this week (I guess the cat's out of the bag, the guy was JD). I made a seriously stupid move and ended up giving him all my chips. I must've had a meltdown or something. I brought my wife in to try the tournament for the first time. She decided to play in the World Series with me, so needs to get comfortable in a live environment. The blind structu...

Sorry for the severe lack of updates. I wasn’t on the computer much during my vacation and my new job keeps me pretty busy. It’s not like the old job, where I was left with plenty of time for blogging. And now that my wife is pregnant, she needs a lot of attention when I’m at home. I’ll try to squeeze in more updates going forward, though. I got 5th place at the Casino San Pablo tournament last weekend That was pretty exciting, it had been a while since I made the final table. I had gott...

Sweet, I finally started making a profit again! Yesterday was a lot of fun, four tabling is definitely where it's at. Exciting, lot's of action, and it's really easy to stay tight when you've got so many hands to choose from. Party Poker let's me resize the tables, so it was easy to watch four at once. It was tough to get too far ahead, though. On one table, I was losing pretty bad. On another, I was getting good hands but getting sucked out on. On the third table, I was winning a lot of smal...

Not much to report lately. It's a lot more fun to write updates when I'm winning fat wads of cash, instead of this losing or break even play. I've started winning again, but still haven't fully recovered from those nasty losses earlier. I was doing a bunch of $5 tournaments, but didn't win any. It's been pretty rough. But I finally decided to go back to playing $3/$6 and started winning again. I was stressed out at first, since I was so worried that a loss would push me back down to $2/$4....

Ouch! I took another beating at $3/$6 last night. I kept trying to push with what I thought were small edges, but was getting handily beaten. I'd get into a re-raising war with QQ only to find myself up against KK. Pushed AJ against AQ. Then AQ against AK. Pushed hard with 66 when I made a set on the flop, only to lose to 88 when they made a set on the turn. Lost two pair to flushes on the river a few times. I just took one beatdown after another the entire session. It was frustrating to lo...
